Is shungite radioactively contaminated?

We often receive calls and emails from concerned shungite users who would like to know if shungite is radioactively contaminated.

The good news is that shungite stones from our shop are completely harmless.  It is verified by customs officials at the time of importation.  Moreover, the radiation level of stones has been determined by an independent laboratory.

At the following link you can see exact results of the survey.

As you can see from the certificate, the radioactive load value of our stones is 364.0 Bq/kg of Cs 137 and Cs 143.  For comparison, the Becquerel limit of caesium-137 per kilogram of food is 600 units.  We have taken this information from the website of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection:

https://www.bfs.de/DE/themen/ion/umwelt/lebensmittel/pilze-wildbret/pilze-wildbret.html

Like many things in our life, the saying 'the dose makes the poison' also applies to shungite.  Thus, natural radiation is present in shungite stone as well.  However, the dose is completely harmless, which is also verified during customs clearance.  Since we have been importing stones, i.e. since 1999, there has not been a single case of an increased value on the Geiger counter.  That’s reasonable, as there are no submarines, nuclear power plants or anything like that at the site where shungite was found in Karelia.
