Classic shungite is an exceptional natural rock from the far north of Karelia that has been highly valued for centuries. If you buy shungite, you choose a material that is not only visually versatile but also deeply rooted in Nordic tradition. Due to its natural strength and structure, classic shungite can be processed extremely well and formed into different shapes. This allows the creation of pyramids, spheres, cylinders, plates, or decorative objects for living spaces and gardens from a single shungite stone.
By polishing, the surface of classic shungite can be refined, creating a deep black, silky shine. At the same time, the mineral composition of the stone remains unchanged. In addition to objects for interiors, classic shungite is also used for jewelry, making it a wearable natural companion in everyday life.
The term “classic shungite” describes the most common mineral form of this special rock. It differs clearly from the rare elite or noble shungite, both in appearance and availability.
Noble shungite is a very rare variety that occurs only in small quantities. It has a glass-like, silvery-black shine, hardly rubs off, and is often perceived as particularly high-quality due to its appearance. Many people who specifically buy noble shungite appreciate it mainly as a collector’s stone or for special individual pieces.
Classic shungite occurs in much larger quantities in Karelia and is therefore also referred to as “ordinary shungite” – without diminishing its significance. Its raw surface is matte, often rough, and strongly staining due to its high carbon content. These properties make it, from a traditional perspective, a particularly powerful shungite stone suitable for various applications and shapes.
It is called “classic shungite” because this mineral form represents the original and most widespread type of shungite, as it has been present and traditionally used in Karelia for centuries.
For shungite powder, only natural, untreated classic shungite stones are finely ground. The powder is very fine-grained and strongly coloring. Traditionally, shungite powder is used for external applications such as ointments, pastes, or compresses. It is mixed with water or plant-based fats and applied externally. It is also traditionally used as an additive in paints, plasters, or mineral coatings for natural interior design.
Please note: Shungite powder is not a medicinal product or cosmetic product in the legal sense. Its use is based on traditional experience.
We offer classic shungite chips in different grain sizes.
Important: Shungite chips are naturally very dusty and must be rinsed thoroughly before use.
Raw shungite is available in many sizes, from small pieces to large heavy stones. It is completely natural and untreated.
Traditionally, it is used for water treatment and as a stone in spaces or outdoors.
Polished stones are not suitable for water use.
Each stone is individually selected and documented. You receive exactly the piece shown.
Only raw or matte tumbled shungite is suitable for water use.
Polishing is not stable and may release residues in water. Therefore it is not recommended.
