Classic shungite can also be used for water purification. For this purpose only unprocessed raw stones can be used. Unrounded shungite, not exposed to polishing, can be also used for water purification.

Why does not polished shungite fit for water purification?

Polished shungite has beautiful shine and looks like a typical water stone. However, the appearance of the stone is deceptive, classic shungite has a matte surface by nature due to its composition. Even on the bank of Lake Onega the rounded shungite is found, but it never shines. In order to make stones shiny, they are being polished for quite a long time. If you put a polished stone into water, polishing residues may be dissolved in water. The used polishing is not harmful to health, but, nevertheless, it should not get into drinking water. So do not use polished shungite for water. Information on water purification can be found on our website in the section “WATER AND SHUNGITE”.
